COBBLING STEP #7 – Connect each historical site I visit to a current Indigenous event, action or activity happening in Toronto. Visit, participate, engage.

Philip Cote is an artist, activist, historian and traditional wisdom keeper affiliated with the Shawnee, Lakota, Potawatomi, Ojibway, Algonquin, and Mohawk First Nations.  His murals tell stories of Indigenous history, teachings and creation.

I found these murals along the shores of the Humber River. His 10 part Beginning of the Universe series is painted on columns of the bridge running under Old Mill Subway station and over the Humber River.  This series illuminates 130, 000 years of Indigenous history on Turtle Island and links the cosmology of the human world with the Underwater World and the Sky World.

I know about Two-Eyed Seeing and the Eight Fire Prophesy.  I wonder if I am romanticizing Indigenous culture with nostalgic longing.
