Tavern Chair
RIGHT VAMP - Hallowell Twp, Millitary Concession 3 Lot 11, Farmland, Furniture Barn
“I know the Goodmurphys were granted land in Collingwood Township. I wonder why they decided to settle in Prince Edward County.”
Despite being granted land up near Georgian Bay, the Goodmurphies settled near the Village of Wellington, Ontario. I wonder if this was because the land up north was completely uncleared and in 1822 there was no village or settlement. Captain John had been educated as a Lawyer. He enter military service due to his mother’s death after the 1798 Rebellion at Wexford.
I got this red vinyl tavern chair at the Scoharie Furniture Barn. I was thinking about Inns and taverns because Captain John’s address is listed as Cooley’s Hotel on Colborne Street in classified ads from in the Hallowell Press.

The Shoharie Furniture Barn is on Lot 11 Concession 3 in Hallowell Township. After a three year apprenticeship with a shoemaker in Kingston, Lawrence reunited with his family in Prince Edward County where he met his wife Lydia Garrett.
Lawrence and his family lived on the north end of this lot for at least 10 years. The first google satellite image shows Lot 11 as the middle rectangle bounded by roads. You can see the Furniture Barn on the south side, and a commercial farm on the north. I couldn’t access the land on the north, so I went shopping at Scoharie’s instead.
