Snakeskin Boot

“I feel kind of stupid about how little I’ve learned about Indigenous presence in Wellington.”

It makes no sense to have a handmade snakeskin cowboy boot from Texas in my Acknowledgement Shoes. It’s stupid to include this boot, but I feel kind of stupid about how little I’ve learned about Indigenous presence in Wellington Ontario.

Maybe the snakeskin represents all the misinformation and gaps in my knowledge. Walking this landscape I feel like a strange, exotic foreigner. As a Settler looking for Indigenous people I guess I feel a bit like a snake in a snowdrift …
