That’s essentially what Daniel Reynolds (the infamous first White Man in Wellington) told Garrett brothers Issac and Benjamin when they became Daniel’s new neighbours. At that time the salmon were so abundant in the lake that you could stand on the shore and spear them. Apparently Reynolds didn’t want to share and he didn’t want any crowds. The Bay of Quinte was a hugely important fishing territory for the Mississauga and other First Nations.
I don’t really know why there is this erosion felt everywhere. I do know that this public beach area was created with landfill at some point. Shape of this shoreline is very different from how it would have looked when these waters were thick with fish.
