When Captian John Goodmurphy, his wife Deborah and his six children arrived in Canada, they still had not been issued land grants. Captain John wrote a flowery letter petitioning for land for his suffering family who was ill with typhus in Kingston. On September 4th 1822 Captain John Good Murphy was finally issued two Military Grants. These Free Grants were paid to him for his service in the 54th Regimin of the Foot. The grants included the North ½ of Lot 14, and Lot 17 in Concession 4 in Collingwood Township.
